A decade later: Absolute reflects on the iPhone on its 10th anniversary

It's been 10 years since Apple introduced the iPhone to the world. Now, in 2017, Absolute Marketing Solutions reflects on how it changed the landscape of the app and mobile marketing industries.

It's hard to believe it's been 10 years since it was 2007. Black Eyes Peas and emo rock dominated the radio waves, everyone was reading The Secret, and were wearing appropriated keffiye scarves.

On June 29th, 2007, when Steve Jobs presented the iPhone to the world, it was a big deal. Not only was it a sleek, beautiful piece of technology, but it offered up features and functionalities that hadn't existed in the market before. The slogan was, "This is only the beginning," and the SDK became available the following March and allowed developers to create apps that would be available for iPhone OS Version 2.0.

Today, we reflect on what the iPhone means to us.

I originally got the iPhone 5 in 2012 because of the dual-camera, which at 8 megapixels was over double my old Android phone, but I stayed with Apple because of how easily it integrated with my life. I think the first app I downloaded was the Flashlight app, because it wasn’t yet a feature on the iPhone 5.


I purchased the first iPhone for our company in 2008 when Apple released the SDK, and we were finally able to start programming apps on the iOS platform. Very quickly, I fell in love with its ease of use, and was playing with it far too much to allow the developers to work… so I had to buy a second one for myself.


My first iPhone was the 3GS that I bought in 2009, my first year of journalism school. It was totally out of my budget but was in love with the fact that it had a camera, could connect to the Internet, had news apps, and I could broadcast anything to the world – and it fit in my pocket. I’ve only had iPhones ever since and don’t think I could consider switching.



I’m an Android guy.


In 2013, I was getting married and changing mobile provider to be on my the same plan as my husband. During that change, I decided the give Apple a shot and got my very first iPhone the iPhone 5s. It was so easy to use compared to my Android phone and never crashed, which my Android phone did all the time. The first app that I downloaded was probably Facebook, but I really can’t remember.


Having an iPhone is such a life improvement! As any other introvert, I used to be afraid of interacting with people while out in public. I have a friendly demeanor which encourages strangers to strike up conversations about the weather or oil prices. Now I can easily avoid eye contact and just stare into my iPhone. Introverts all over the world are now spared from awkwardness, just a fingerprint scan away.
