“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body” – Joseph Addison
Suppose you have seen the Absolute Marketing Solutions office. In that case, you would have noticed the endless bookshelves in our conference room stuffed with original copies of historically famous novels, piles of informational books about marketing and content creation on each of our desks, and countless collections of other creative and relevant books lining the hallway.
Although we may read some of these books more than others, each has informed us about new information that has provoked new ideas. On National Read a Book Day, we want to share some of our favorite books that have impacted us throughout the years that may inspire you in the future.
Alfred Goldberg – President of Absolute Marketing Solutions:
Without a moment of hesitation, Alfred Goldberg, President of Absolute Marketing Solutions, chose the classic novel The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald as his favorite book. He first fell in love with the novel, like most, in High School English class. However, over the years, he had grown a greater appreciation for the characters and symbolism throughout the plot. “Reading it as a 40 something-year-old man was different than reading it as a 25-year-old man, which was different from reading it as a 17-year-old,” said Alfred. “The Great Gatsby is truly a great American Novel and should be read at least once a decade.”
Anna Gordon – Account Manager:
Our Account Manager has read so many amazing books that she could not choose her favorite; however, she recently enjoyed Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid. The novel follows a young woman who introduces a new nanny to her family. Without giving too much away, an unfortunate incident leads to the unfolding of this family’s past relationships and creates tension between the characters. The ongoing events left Gordon intrigued and eager to reach the ending of the novel. She recommends this book to anyone interested in a humorous yet serious plot.
Alexis Hishmeh – Social Media Manager:
Our Social Media Manager selected the award-winning novel An Abundance of Katherines by John Green as her favorite book. The coming-of-age story discusses the life of a high school prodigy known for dating girls named Katherine. After graduating from high school and getting broken up with by yet another Katherine, the teenager finds himself on a cross-country road trip with his best friend searching for self-discovery. “Anything by John Green is a good read,” said Alexis. “This book was especially reassuring to young readers like myself who were going through similar problems of worrying about the future and doubting their abilities out of high school.”
Michael Lorenzo – Director of Web Design:
Our Director of Web Design chose The Giver by Lois Lowry as one of his favorite books due to the thought-provoking themes relating to individuality and the value of memories. In addition, he found the main character, Jonas, inspiring as he resisted conformity to discover the truth within a utopian world. Although it may be a simple read for many, the ideas that Lowry provokes are mature and challenging to the mind.
Natalie DiRoberto – Content Specialist:
I was introduced to the book The Adventures of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick when I was in elementary school. The historical fiction novel tells the story of an orphaned boy who lives in the walls of a train station in France. His obsession with fixing his late father’s cinematic invention leads him on an adventure to discover what truly happened to his family. This book is unique because it includes hand-drawn sketches of each scene illustrating the character’s emotions. Little did I know that I would later come upon this book again in my college years! With that being said, this book is enjoyable for any age group and will leave you wanting to learn more about the history of French cinema.
Hopefully, you have found these recommendations intriguing and will consider reading them or others written by the authors. Today, we encourage all of you to celebrate National Read a Book Day by stepping away from your screens and taking the time to enjoy a good book!
